Layla Prismriver (レイラ・プリズムリバー Reira purizumuribā) was the fourth daughter of the Prismriver family. When the family was orphaned, she didn't want to leave the mansion that held so much of her memories, so she made poltergeists that looked like her sisters and then vanished along with the mansion.

General Information

Layla was only briefly mentioned in the Prismriver Sisters's official profile of Perfect Cherry Blossom. She currently has no official portrait.

Layla was originally from the Outside World. It was said that Layla's father was a merchant and count. After an accident involving an item from Gensokyo which he had somehow procured, she and the rest of the Prismriver Sisters were all orphaned and went their separate ways. Layla stayed in the mansion as it held so many memories. With powers she had gained from the item, she conjured poltergeists with the appearance of her older sisters, then vanished along with the mansion and the poltergeists.

Eventually she and the other sisters died, but the three poltergeists still "live" at the now called Ruined Western Mansion.

Character Basis

Name and Origin

Her full name is Layla Prismriver (レイラ・プリズムリバー). Although the word Layla comes from the Arabic word for "night", it may probably be related to Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Eric Clapton of the group band Derek and the Dominos in 1970. However, this is most likely a coincidence. Also, there is no official English spelling of her name as there are various ways to romanise her name, although in French it would be Leila.

Additional information

  • Layla is one of the few characters in the Touhou Project known to be deceased without a known spirit or ghost form.

Fandom

Despite only being briefly mentioned with no official artwork, Layla has become notorious enough that she has her own fanart; the most common depiction of her is having long, green, wavy hair and green eyes with a purple dress, which bares the resemblance of the Prismriver Sisters.[1] It unknown if ZUN's aware of this depiction. However of course, illustrations and characteristics of Layla may vary, being completely different to the said description of Layla, such as this image.

Miscellaneous
  • Layla is commonly treated to have become a poltergeist and to have settled in Gensokyo, still living in the Ruined Western Mansion with the Prismriver Sisters.
  • She is commonly shown with the Prismriver Sisters.
